The Bryant Residences
& Park Terrace Hotel
2018
Reimagining classical midtown buildings in a minimalist lifestyle residence while transforming the CQ hotel with a flagship hotel, my role as architecture and interior design manager on an interdisciplinary and international project was collaborative. I lead teams of architects, interior designers, real estate executives, lawyers, investment partners, engineers, technologists, branding designers, purchasing agents, fabricators and construction managers with Masterworks Development. Ground up construction on Park Terrace Hotel and The Bryant luxury residences were completed after 5 years from real estate deal inception in 2013 through design, development and opening in 2018. CQ Hotels rediscovers contemplative roots in our origin city.
Tailor-made to reflect Bryant Park’s sanctuary in Midtown Manhattan, guest rooms and studios at Park Terrace Hotel and Bryant Residences are at once airy, urban, and endlessly inviting with cutting-edge amenities. A Design collaboration by David Chipperfield Architects, Stonehill Taylor, TG Nickel General Contractors, Masterworks Development and HFZ Capital; the 226 accommodations, retail and restaurant feature a fresh and natural aesthetic overlooking Bryant Park and the NY Public Library. Maintaining privacy and a restful sanctuary. Each accommodation offers highly crafted interior details within a minimalist terrazzo skyscraper. State-of-the-art amenities harness user’s devices to create a highly personalized aesthetic and restful stay. Rich, inviting public areas echo the dappled shadows of the park’s promenade while each room offers a contemplative respite from the midtown hustle.
The hotel terminates at the 14th floor, with private residences above. Served by 2 separate lobbies at street level, with 2 adjacent retail units animating the street. It is articulated in 3 separate parts following the traditional tripartite composition of the NY tower: base, middle and crown. Adhering to Landmarks, the façade is a contemporary interpretation to the historic buildings nearby with concrete terrazzo aggregate of the stone varieties found in the neighboring buildings’ masonry façades. Polished precast slabs and columns follow a tectonic grid composition lending the building a classical appearance. The building structure extends into the interior of the residences, reinforcing its minimalism. Built-in furnishings conceal storage and appliances while dividing the spaces, removing the need for partition walls, and allowing uninterrupted perimeter views. Floor-to ceiling windows open on to Juliet balconies on the N and S façades for all residences, while the penthouses have double-height, colonnaded terraces with view over the city and park.
